About the project:

      The design project was created in 2014 and implemented in 2016. The owners of this interior have been happy in it for 4 years! Despite the fact that the interior has lived all this time, it hasn’t gone out of date, but, on the contrary, has been filled even more. As the photographing was not professional enough, the photos may not quite reproduce all the nuances, play of colours, materials and textures. Besides, the customers have filled the interior by decorations and felt at home ;) I suggest you getting an insight into the process of project development. In the first gallery, I will show you the project information, the initial layout and the one we have decided to implement. In the second gallery, you can see the implementation process from the rough work stage and with the finishing materials, where there are camera angles and details that can’t be seen in the final shooting. In the third gallery there is the photo session itself!

       Here we go! Apart from the rational and functional tasks concerning the layout concept, the customers wanted to implement their interior in the Neo-classical style. I perfectly understood that it was necessary to take into account not only in the design concept of the interior finish, but also in the planning itself, as classic styles are based on canonic patterns like symmetry, symmetry axis, room axis, rhythm, proportions and other constituents. Neo-classical style is not so strict, it allows some deviations and its own simplified patterns and tasks. But Olga highly recommended not to refuse from the key accenting elements, in which the customers trusted their designer’s professionalism and intuition.

         In the final layout concept, I suggested making two big bathrooms, expanding them by means of the corridor area. Due to such a solution, we could use the spare corridor area in the bathrooms and transform the entrance hall to a correct and laconic square shape. An entrance hall serves as a hub for any house or flat. It must be quite spacious and laconic. I started to implement the idea of using canonic patterns from this room: maximally centered position of the doors relative to each other, as much as the architecture of the building allowed, symmetrical layout of the mirrors on the wall at the entrance to the living room, constructing the ceiling in such a way that its central light in the form of the ceiling lamp set the basis of the central axis of the lighting from the entrance hall through the living room to the window bay. The multi-level ceilings added some monumentality to the height of the rooms.

          From the entrance hall, we get to the living room already combined with the kitchen. Here we faced the problem of solid columns standing out of the walls almost in every room.

We decided to take the maximum advantage of all these sets-off and rough parts for our interior. We edged the column opposite the sofa with tailored furniture cover plates and added another false column, inside of which we hid a convenient cupboard for dishes and a bar. The center between these columns initiated a new axis: a television between the columns, a sofa opposite it, a kitchen table for a quick bite, and finally, the main kitchen center – the vertical of the cooker hood, the hob and the oven. Due to such an axis, you can watch TV while cooking, eating at the kitchen table and from the sofa.

         In the bay window of the living room, there is a dining table. And in the kitchen – an L-shaped kitchen furniture set. To increase the kitchen illumination, we enlarged the doorway to the loggia by installing a sliding double-glass pane. Thus, we got a cosy winterized loggia as an additional seating area.

        The new amount of the light output from the wide loggia doorway also added some light to the living room, having smoothed the boundaries between the latter and the kitchen. Initially, the living room was narrow and outstretched. The customers wanted more space and light. During the renovation, we refused from the idea of a bar counter with a window to the living room and left the gap behind the sofa maximally spare. As a result, we achieved lightness and space between the living room and the kitchen by smoothing visual boundaries. The customers’ task was fulfilled!

        In the entrance hall there is a door to a so called guest bathroom where everything needed is present: a bath with a shower head and a glass curtain, a washing machine, a sink and a toilet. This bathroom can be used by both hosts and guests – with a feeling of a fully featured and comfortable one.

         Next, from the entrance hall, we get to the corridor that has become laconic and straight, without a niche near the bedroom, which we used for the main bathroom.

         In the corridor, there is the door to the clothes room, which we have moved from the entrance hall.

         Further on is the child’s room – a magic place for a little princess! Working over the geometry of this room, which initially was very outstretched, we used the same principle that in the living room: put two axes as a basis. The first axis is the center of the desk by the window to the door; the second one is the center of the bedding and the opposite wall with a painting. The columns, standing out of the walls, were turned to advantage with the help of furniture, and also kept up this idea on the opposite wall on both sides of the bedding.

Then, we get to the guest study-room. Here we modelled the column in an easier way – we decorated it like an outstanding column, and to back it up, constructed another one from plasterboard, so a sofa perfectly fitted between them in the end. The axis from the center of the columns is the main one in this room. Along the sloping wall, we installed a furniture set with a working place. Thus, despite the complex geometry of the room, we got a fairly harmonious and balanced space.

          Further on are the bedroom and the main bathroom. The bedroom has a rectangular shape. As we know, square-shaped rooms are more comfortable for living. To improve this geometry, I took as a basis the axis: the center of the wall part behind the bedhead through the whole room to the opposite wall, where a TV set was supposed to be. To reinforce the effect, while decorating all the attention was focused on that axis.

           In the main bathroom, the center was the cabinet with a centered sink. And then we installed a big bathroom in the spare niche we had got.

           In the process of implementation, we decided to make a more exquisite interior than we developed in the project. We changed the tiles collection, the doors, simplified the bedhead elements in the bedroom and the kitchen project… In general, it turned out more elegant! As a designer, I was present at all the stages, and chose all the decoration materials, furniture canvas and textiles together with the guardian of the family hearth.

We have come across a renovation not for the first time, but worked with a designer only now! We have opened our eyes on renovation anew! DIA Studio (the project was implemented during my work in the studio as the project lead designer) and our designer Olga Kupchinskaya helped us solve all the complicated questions, took everything with understanding, quickly reacted to all the emerging situations needing on-the-spot decision. We understood, how important it is to turn to professionals, because their experienced view can suggest such ideas and solutions we couldn’t even think of. Very deep immersion of the designer into our project contributed to such an excellent result. We are totally satisfied – dreams come true!
